Principal's Message
Dear Students, Staff, and Families:
Welcome to the new school year at the Harriet Tubman Learning Center, Home of the Eagles. We are beginning the new year with great expectations for student achievement.
I’m pleased to announce that we are adopting the Eagle as our mascot. Eagles can teach us a lot about rising above the storms of life and learning to soar. They are the highest- flying birds, and are symbols of strength and leadership. I hope all members of our school community will soar this year by focusing on your goals, overcoming challenges with your strengths, and demonstrating leadership.
Our teachers and school staff are here to support students and families. Our mission and commitment are to provide a safe and intellectually challenging environment that will empower students to become innovative thinkers, intellectual risk-takers, collaborators, creative problem solvers and inspired learners prepared to excel in the twenty-first century.
We will continue to offer a variety of challenging and enriching academic programs for all students, and will provide targeted interventions for students who need additional support. The more we know about our students, the better we will be able to create the conditions for them to demonstrate growth. Reflecting upon and responding to data to make decisions about curriculum, instruction and assessment will help us to provide effective instruction to our students.
We will continue to promote physical and mental wellness to ensure students are ready to learn. We aim to build and strengthen self-esteem and to develop and promote good citizenship in all of our students through restorative justice strategies. We will collaborate with community organizations to expose students to a variety of cultural, artistic, and scientific experiences so learning extends beyond the classroom.
Throughout the school year there will be many activities that include families to strengthen our home-school support model. We encourage you to participate in as many of these activities as you can. We encourage you to help promote healthy attendance habits, and to learn more about physical and mental wellness resources that can help your child come to school prepared to learn.
Let’s build on our successes from last school year and focus on our goals for the coming school year so that we can continue to soar as the proud Tubman Eagles.
I am looking forward to another amazing school year in service to our students, parents, and community.
All the Best,
Elizabeth Jarrett
